FAQ

Is this a safe process to use?

Our ancestors practiced this process in their own homes and without modern technology.  To mitigate any problems that may occur an undertaker is employed to cover treatments beyond the practices of KWT especially in the event of accidents or where embalming is essential.

Am I able to design my own KWT?

KWT allows you to work in conjunction with and to negotiate at all points how you wish to make things happen meanwhile keeping the integrity and mana of the process in tact.

Do I have to be a Maori to receive KWT?

Presently this cultural process is accorded to Maori - those who are outside of the culture are able to negotiate the process - KWT will provide support for those who want to establish this tradition and to keep the integrity and mana of the process in tact.

Can I get discounts?

Essential to this process is skilled human resources, these people take time out  of their lives to contribute to KWT and to make the process flow. They also need to live and to have an income.  These people are the backbone to the process and have the skills to complete the process to its personalised completion.  There are set costs and these reamain.

What legal requirements are there?

The only legal requirement by the government is to register the death through Births Deaths and Marriages once the Doctor has signed the Death Certificate.

Can I still use a coffin and have the whariki over the top?

KWT practice is to enhance and support Papatuanuku, Mother Earth, to heal her and to keep her healthy.  Coffins that are filled with poison are not accepted by KWT.  Whariki have been woven and placed over the top of coffins.  KWT has no control over this.  However essential to KWT process is holding the mana of the weavers.

Do you have templates of your processes?

Presently there are no templates of the process - each one has its own personalised approach with family driving the every day events and KWT providing the specialist embalming and making of the KWT.  Records of needs are made with whanau signing off an agreement of what they want and what KWT will do.
